Ampere contributed but one work on the theory of probability. It is the Considerations sur la théorie mathématique du jeu, published at Lyon in 1802. The English is Considerations on the mathematical theory of the game.
The subject of the work is a proof of the ultimate ruin of gamblers
under all circumstances. In addition, the Appendix presents an
application of his research to the solution of quadratic equations.
